Did you know that there are 187,000 kids that live in poverty in New Zealand? This means they’re often hungry when they come to school—if they come to school—or maybe they’ve no shoes or jackets in the wintertime. This affects their ability or even desire to learn.
Not wanting kids to miss out due to factors beyond their control is what KidsCan is all about. KidsCan was set up in 2005 to prove just that—kids can learn, they can grow and they can flourish. How? KidsCan have made it their mission to help kids affected by poverty by working with early years centres and schools to offer food, jackets, shoes and even health products to meet the kids’ basic needs. KidsCan’s aim is to enable Kiwi kids to stay at school and get a good education that will help them have a better future. You can’t learn about maths problems or write stories when you’re hungry, cold or feeling unwell.
But, part of being a kid and enjoying life is toys! All kids, both big and small, love toys! So, The Toy Box recently paid-it-forward a voucher for $350 worth of their toys to KidsCan so they could put an extra smile on the faces of the kids they help.
The Toy Box, an online toy store, has a range of toys to suit all ages and tastes. They have bikes, blocks and puzzles, but they also have a variety of train sets and also outdoor games and toys. They even have a range of lunchboxes that could have been put to good use with the food from KidsCan! KidsCan could not do the great work they do without the generosity of businesses like The Toy Box.
If you’re looking for a toy for a special someone, head to The Toy Box’s website for ideas. You can add to your bill as well so that they pay-it-forwards can continue too.
Here’s how generous people just like you have made a difference to local people in need.
