While the New World Brookfield pay-it-forward fundraiser ended months ago, the impact is still being felt by those in need. We recently received a heartwarming story, showcasing the incredible impact of the Ōtūmoetai Social Supermarket on a local family.
We all know those weeks when finances seem tighter than ever. Whether it's unexpected expenses like car troubles or medical bills, or simply the rising cost of living eating into our budgets, it's not a pleasant feeling. The first thing to go is often the fun and extracurricular activities, but for our children these provide an important social experience and help them grow in confidence.
For this local family, access to the Ōtūmoetai Social Supermarket was the difference between their daughter being able to participate in sports vs missing out due to expenses.
In their own words, the family expressed, "We have been able to afford to let my daughter participate in sports without worrying about how to pay for fees and uniforms. It's the little things that make a huge difference, but this has had a massive impact."
This heartfelt statement beautifully illustrates the profound difference the Ōtūmoetai Social Supermarket has made in their lives, and those of other locals in need.
It’s thanks to New World Brookfield and their generous customers that the Ōtūmoetai Social Supermarket, is able to support more families in need like this one.
Through this three week campaign $39,638 worth of groceries was paid-forward. That’s enough to support 991 people!
To gain access to these groceries, locals are referred to the Social Supermarket by the likes of health care services, chuches, or self-referred. They’re then allocated a number of points which corresponds to the size of their family. This point systems gives them the freedom to fill their trolleys with what they need, paying just a small donation at the end.
