Do you love tasty home-cooked food? Do you like coffee? Look no further to find both than at The General in Mount Maunganui! The General eatery, established in 2017 at 19B Pacific Avenue, is an award-winning café and “general” eating place. It has a “family vibe” but also aims to provide wholesome food using fresh, sustainable, free-range and organic ingredients; they even bake their own bread!

The General café also believes in reaching out and helping the community and has recently donated twenty delicious meals to Homes of Hope in Tauranga. Homes of Hope is an organisation that offers restorative foster care for tamariki (children) in the area who have experienced trauma, such as abuse or neglect.

Homes of Hope wants to offer these children a home and hope, and believes that every child “deserves to feel safe and loved”.

The General believes in what Homes of Hope is trying to do and, in wanting to pay-it-forward for a better future for these children, they have donated twenty meals to be distributed to the homes caring for these little ones.

A Homes of Hope carer says: “I picked up the meals this morning. The team there [at The General] are lovely! Thanks so much for organising this. Our tamariki and team are very grateful.”

GoGenerosity has been proud to work with The General and Homes of Hope, acting as an intermediary in facilitating the transfer of the meals. We admire the generosity of the foster families offering respite and care to the children coming into their homes through Homes of Hope, and we also appreciate the meals that The General donated to offer thanks and appreciation to these foster families. GoGenerosity also believes in manaakitanga (showing respect, generosity and care).
