Dermalogica: Empowering women through skincare

A brand with a conscience, Dermalogica New Zealand isn’t new to trying to make positive change in the world. They’ve been on a mission to better their impact on the planet, through their ‘Healthy Skin, Healthy Planet’ initiative which drives towards their goals of 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging, and packaging made from plants or recycled materials. 

They’ve also worked to implement an internal goal of “empowering 1,000 women” per year. Starting in 2022 the Dermalogica NZ team achieved this goal through things like upskilling and training women in their network, as well as donating 100 Safe Nights to Women’s Refuge which helps women and their children escape family violence. 

Having already felt an alignment with Women’s Refuge, and the shared values of supporting women to see and achieve their potential, Dermalogica NZ wanted to scale their impact, choosing GoGenerosity to do it.

We chose to partner with GoGenerosity as their model allowed us to scale our social impact. They have a super user-friendly platform, that is easy to implement and for charities to redeem. GoGenerosity allows us to amplify our donations by applying their learnings and creating a seamless experience for our consumers

By adding the GoGeneosity Pay-it-forward widget to their checkout experience, Dermalogica NZ has been able to include customers in their drive to help Women’s Refuge. The brand matches every dollar paid-forward, amplifying the good it can do.

These pay-it-forward donations are used to provide Dermalogica products to Women's Refuge. This charity provides crucial support to women who have escaped dangerous home situations, often starting anew with limited resources. Sadly this is not uncommon in New Zealand, with an estimated one in two women experiencing physical, sexual or emotional abuse in their lifetimes (source: Good Shepard Report). 

For these women, their day-to-day life has been focused on survival and just getting through. It’s a time when they need help to thrive and to feel uplifted, which is where Dermalogica comes in. Together with their customers, Dermalogica is actively contributing to the empowerment and well-being of these resilient women. With each skincare product provided, they are giving these resilient women a reminder that they matter, and a form of self-care.
