No matter the season, it costs a lot to clothe kids! But it’s especially hard when you’ve had to flee home in a hurry, much like the women at the Tauranga Women’s Refuge. When it’s fight or flight, there’s often no time for packing clothes and treasures for the little ones.

The Kids Store in Mount Maunganui are experts in kids’ clothing. They’re also experts in generosity - being one of our very first business partners on the platform. They recently paid-forward $1,202 worth of clothing for the 13 kids that are currently in Tauranga Women’s Refuge safe houses. They and their mums were really grateful.

Carol, the Practice and Team Leader at Tauranga Women’s Refuge, spoke on behalf of all those who received the clothes when she said, “It’s always exciting receiving for our families as we know they will love it." She added that the Women’s Refuge team were always happy to receive “these taonga/gifts on behalf of our families”.

Assisting The Kids Store in their bid to help those at Tauranga Women’s Refuge were corporate partners Holland Beckett Law (with legal offices throughout the Bay of Plenty) and Mount Main Street (or the Mount Business Association, a collection of businesses in the Mount’s “main” street). Altogether, these businesses wanted to do their bit to offer a better future for these kids.

So, next time you’re in at The Kids Store or shopping with them online, why not spare a thought for the families at Women’s Refuge and add a little to your bill - even just $1 or $2 - so that we can all be part of making a difference.
